This annual event was first started in 2007 by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in Sydney, Australia. It began as a symbolic lights-out event to raise awareness about climate change, and it quickly became a global movement involving millions of people in over 190 countries.
Since its inception, Earth Hour has inspired individuals, businesses, and communities to take action towards a more sustainable future. In 2020, despite the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, an estimated 1.4 billion people participated in Earth Hour by switching off their lights for one hour.
At Venvivi Come Alive, we proudly participated in Earth Hour 2023 and showed our commitment to the planet. We learned some powerful lessons during this event that we want to share with you.
First, we realized just how much we rely on electricity in our daily lives. By turning off the lights, we were reminded of our actions' impact on the environment. It also allowed us to appreciate the beauty of natural light and nighttime mood lighting.
Secondly, participating in Earth Hour can help you identify potential energy-saving opportunities in your home. By turning off the circuit breaker, you can discover ways to reduce unnecessary electricity consumption, such as replacing light bulbs with LED lights and using energy-efficient appliances. These small changes can save you money in the long run and reduce your carbon footprint.
Thirdly, Earth Hour teaches us that individual actions can significantly reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. By participating in this global movement, we join a community of people who share the same values and actions towards sustainability and environmental protection.
Lastly, the best part of Earth Hour is the sense of togetherness it brings. By participating, we join a community of people who share the same values and actions towards sustainability and environmental protection. It's like a giant virtual group hug for the planet!
We encourage you to keep up the excellent work and to practice energy-saving habits every day. Let's keep the lights off (sometimes) and keep the planet happy!
Thank you for your continued commitment to sustainability, and we look forward to participating in Earth Hour with you again next year.
P.S. Here is an education packet for you to share, educate and inspire young learners with a Certificate of achievement from WWF
